AT WAR WITH AXIS
ANNOUNCEMENT IN SYRIA
Eec. 1 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 26. The Syrian President. Shukry Bey el-Kawatly, announced in the Chamber of Deputies that Syria was, in a state of war with the Axis Powers.
_ Beirut radio says that the declaration followed conversations between President Kawatly and Allied leaders in Cairo. The President told the Chamber that since.'.the outbreak- of the v/ar, Syria had placed all her resources at the disposal of the Allies and wished to take an active part in the Allied struggle. . The radio added that the statement was regarded as an outright declaration of war, but the Chamber of Deputies would ratify the incision tomorrow.
