IMPORTANCE STRESSED

FRENCH MINISTER'S TALKS IN BRITAIN

Rec. 12.50 p.m. RUGBY, Feb. 26. M. Georges Bidault, the French Foreign Minister, who is in London for discussions with the British Government, was the guest of Mr. Churchill at luncheon today. Also present were Mr. Eden, M. Massigli, French Ambassador, and Mr. Duff Cooper, British Ambassador in Paris. M. Bidault had preliminary discussions with Mr. Eden in the country last evening, and accompanied him to London this morning. The importance of the conversations with Mr. Eden is out of all proportion to the brief duration of M. Bidault's visit to this country, writes a diplomatic correspondent. Though he arrived on Sunday and will be on the way to Paris on Tuesday, he has been able to discuss with Mr. Eden many questions in which both France and Britain have a vital interest, notably the decisions of the Crimea Conference as they affect the treatment of defeated Germany. Most important of the matters debated was the questoin of the fate of the Rhineland and the part to be played by France in the occupation of the Reich. Of next importance was the forthcoming San Francisco conference and the voting procedure to be adopted, a point which received special mention in the communique issued after the Crimea Conference. It is probable valso that the problem of the Levant States was under discussion.—B.O.W.
