CROIX DE GUERRE
N.Z. NAVAL OFFICER
Advice has been received by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London that the French authorities have awarded the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star to Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (special branch) Peter Rynd, Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, for services in clearance of mines from the Port of Etaples.
Sub-Lieutenant Rynd was born on June 3, 1920, at Wellington. He was entered in the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve as a seaman on May 25, 1937, and on October 10, 1939, he was mobilised for war service as an able seaman. On July 17. 1941, he was transferred to the coder branch and was promoted to temporary acting sub-lieutenant (special branch) on November 26, 1943, and to temporary sub-lieutenant (special branch) on May 26, 1944. Prior to entry into the Navy he was a clerk in the Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington. His next-of-kiifis his father, Mr. E F. Rynd, P.O. Box 40, Shannon.
