RUSSIAN ASSAULT

PROGRESS MADE IN SERBIA Rec. 11 a.m. RUGBY, Odtober 3. Yugoslav headquarters states that the Russians are continuing their offensive on a broad front in eastern Serbia, and fighting is in progress near Zajecar, 40 miles east of the Nish-Belgrade railway. Various towns were occupied, some not for the first time.

In the west the Mostar-Dubrovnik railway is mostly under Yugoslav con* trol. Fighting is in progress on the outskirts of Banjaluka.

The Zagreb*Karlovac railway has been destroyed in 32 places. All the enemy communications in central and northern Daima'tia are stated to have been cut. and in Slovenia all traffic with Italy has' been interrupted.—• 8.0. W.
