ROAD JUNCTION CAPTURED (By Telegraph—Press Association—Coj.yri_.l_U Rec, 9 a.m. LONDON, October 3. Despite continued strong resistance and adverse weather* British and American troops of the Fifth Army made further progress in the central sector m Italy, says today's Allied communique. The Americans captured the town of Monghidoro, an imSortant road junction on the main Jologna road. Bad weather on the Adriatic coast prevented any major action by the Eighth Army.

A Mediterranean air communique says , that bad weather prevented strategical tactical operations on Sunday night. Light bombers attacked railway yards and other targets in the Po Valley. Coastal planes attacked snipping in the northern Adriatic and the Gulf of Genoa. Aircraft of the Balkan air. force struck at' trobp concentrations and gun positions, in addition to shipping in-the port of Tara. Two planes are missing. ' ASt? r, the capture of Monghidoro, on/Highway 65, the Americans are now 18 miles due south of Bologna, says the Exchange Telegraph agency's correspondent in Italy. Tbe past 24 hours have also seen improvements in other areas of the front. . American troops east of Highway 65, battling through mountains, gained ground at several points, the most important being an advance of about two miles along the Imola road against stiff opposition. Tlie Americans are now in Carseggia, 13 miles from the Rimini-Bologna road, while those troops astride the dominating heights Of Monte Battaglia and Monte Capella, to the east, have, withstood further. enemy efforts to drive them back. Advances have pso been made at a number of points in the western half of the Fifth Army front.

Deep mud in the passes and on the roads continues to hamper movements. The Eighth Army's ■ attack on the Adriatic sector, apart from patrolling, bas been brought completely to a standstill by the .flooded Fiumicino River, behind which the enemy is strongly entrenched.
