PRISONERS SENTENCED
A warning that if he appeared' again he would be declared an habitual criminal was given . Harold Avery Clayton, boot repairer, 49, in the Supreme Court yesterday by Mr. Justice Johnston. Clayton, who appeared for sentence on 15 charges of false pretences, to which he had pleaded guilty at Gisborne, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour. His Honour remarked- on the accused's "imposing list of convictions." David Alexander Sharp (Mr. W. E. Leicester), painter, 31, who had pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court, Wellington, to nine charges of housebreaking and one of burglary, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour.
Paul Vivian Field (Mr. G. Joseph), sewing machine mechanic, 22, was sentenced to 18 months' reformative detention for indecent assault on a male, to which he had pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court, Wellington. On chaTges of assault with intent to rob and of burglary, to which he had pleaded guilty at Wellington, William John Henry Perry (Mr. W. G. Mellish), soldier, 31, received a sentence of 12 months with hard labour.
Deal Hart, a State Forest cadet, 21, remanded from Nelson on two charges of indecent assault on females at Nelson, was sentenced to reformative detention for two. years.
