SOUTH CHINA CAMPAIGN

CHUNGKING; September. 24 American air attacks have set fire to the enemy-held town of Wuchow and destroyed a span of a strategic bridge over the Yellow River, near Chengchow.

The Chinese high command has confirmed the loss of Jungyun, 0 miles south-west of Wuchow. Fighting is continuing at Paoching, 63 miles west of Hengyang, and on the HunanKwangsi railway, about 40 miles north-east of Kweilin.

The death is reported i'rom London of Sir Humphrey Rolleston, who attended King George V during his serious illness in 1928.
