ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS
Satisfaction at the result of the year's operations was expressed by the 'president (Mr. G. G. G. Watson) at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts last night. The annual report stuted that the year closed with a membership of 607 subscribing members, 197 artist members, and two life members. New records in amounts of sales were established for both exhibitions held during the year, no doubt due to the economic conditions. The statement of finances showed the academy to be in a sound state. In moving the adoption of the report the president said they claimed that the year had been a successful one. They could look forward, he thought, to an even larger membership than at present. They had a right to expect that in a city of the size and importance of Wellington. The standard of art had been well maintained. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. G G. G. Watson; vice-president. Mr. E. W. Hunthon. treasurer. Dr. R. Stout; council, Messrs. S. W. Fearn, B. R. Webster, H. W. Nash, and S. B. Maclennan; auditor, Mr. C. D. Morpeth. Messrs. F. de J. Clere. A. D. Carbery, C.8.E., and D. A. Ewen, M.8.E., were elected life members of the academy. Mr. Clere has been a member f0r.55 years and an exhibitor at almost every show.
