TUATARA LIZARD FOUND
While excavating a drain in Fairlie Avenue, Auckland, this week, Mount Albert Borough Council workmen found a young "tuatara lizard, which was exhibited at a meeting of the council. It was about 9in in length and. although most of its body was the usual brownish colour of the fullgrown tuatara, its legs were pink. The borough engineer. Mr. W. E. Begbie, staled that the lizard was near some caves through "which the drain was cut. but no trace could be found of a larger one. It was alive when shown at the council meeting. The council decided to offer it to the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
