ELECTROCUTED IN MINE
P.A. WHANGAREI, Jan. 26. An inquest into the death of William Wellington M'Conie, who was found dead in the Hikurangi mine, where he was engaged as a trucker, revealed that he was electrocuted in what the coroner described as a combination of extraordinary circumstances.
Apparently an empty skip had run away and • left the line, jamming the electric cable against a prop and pulling out the terminals in' the junction box. The cable with .the earth wire then became alive, and M'Conie on going to the derailed skip must have put a hand on the earth wire on the junction box. Close to where the body lay was a kink in the earth wire, which could have been caused by M'Conie's hand.
The verdict was death by electrocution.
A penally of $1 each was inflicted by .-Mr.- ; \W. C. Harley, S.M., on iour» people*, charged -at Petone .yesterday; with rfia'ilinje-to renew radio licences^ '
