TRAFFIC OFFENCES

Charges of driving motor vehicles in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public were heard at the Petone Court yesterday by Mr, W. C. Harley, S.ijVL, against Ernest H. Page, a bus driver, and Ernest A. Briscoe, a private car driver. The evidence showed that Page had driven a bus on the Hutt Road in the, Borough of Petone at a speed of 55 m.p.h. and had passed other traffic. He was fined £7. On a charge of exceeding the speed limit he was fined £2. Ernest A. Briscoe was fined £3 for travelling on the Petone Esplanade at 50 m.p.h. which in the circumstances was considered dangerous. Costs only were inflicted on a second charge of exceeding the speed limit. Fines of £2 in each case were in-, flicted on Phillip Morse, Frederick J. Fox, Jack Victor Haynes, Clifford Aden Smith, Trevor Leslie Windle, John Mason, George T. Neil, and Albert Geissler for exceeding the speed limit. For a similar offence Jack Victor Haynes was fined £1. A fine of £5 was inflicted on V. A. Draper and Co. for carrying goods other than those permitted by the company's licence. On a charge of having failed to renew a heavy traffic licence they were ordered to pay costs.
