RAILWAY FARES
CHILDREN'S CONCESSION
The school-leaving age having been raised to 15 years, it has been decided to grant the concession of half railway fare to children over four years of age and under 15 years. The Minister of Railways (Mr. Semple) said last night that on April 28 last year, it was decided that in future children under four years of age would be carried free and from four years to 14 at half-fare. The new arrangement was in conformity with travel facilities in New South Wales and between New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory and would come into operation on February 1.
The newly-appointed superintendent of the Wellington Free Ambulance, Mr, R. Olen, arrived in Wellington this morning from Auckland. Mr. Olen, who is ka New Zealander, has beep for some time in Australia, where, until receiving this present appointment, he was superintendent of the Canterbury-Bankstown District Free Ambulance in Sydney. He is accompanied by his wife and daughter. Mr. Olen will replace Mr. L. Roffe, acting superintendent, who is retiring from the Wellington Free Ambulance.
