BOTTLES ON BEACHES
Sir,—While endorsing wholeheartedly your comments about broken bottles and ruined tyres I should like to add a few remarks about broken bottles on beaches. The person who in a moment of silly exuberance smashes a bottle on a beach, is as big an offender as a hit and run driver, though he is far from the scene when small feet pay the penalty for his carelessness. I have seen one horrible accident and have picked up countless jagged pieces of glass, and I would ask that a campaign be started to persuade men that 9d a dozen for empty bottles is a far, far better thing than a crippled child on the conscience of the bottle-breaker. —L am, etc.,
