SUCCESSFUL CARNIVAL
The premises appeal of the Wellington Returned Services' Association will benefit by about £4400 as a result of the holiday carnival at the Basin Reserve, though the final figures are not yet available. The association could congratulate itself on a handsome result, said the president, Colonel C. H. Weston, K.C., last night. He paid tribute to the organiser, Mr. Rugby Malcolm, adding that the considerable hard work involved in running the carnival had been eased by general kindness and good will. The R.S.A. premises were now under reconstruction, and it was hoped to have them ready for opening in May. For that result they had to thank the public-spirited citizens of Wellington. Colonel Weston, in connection with the carnival, expressed his thanks to the R.N.Z.A.F. Band, Messrs. Angus Duncan and Walker, the Wellington Cricket Association, the New Zealand Swimming Centre, the Petone Whippet Racing Club, and Mr. T. Magee, Mr. Griffin (radio hut),.-.the Wellington City Council, and its gatekeepers, Mr. Brewer (Basin Reserve), and the women's section of the R.S.A.
