WATERFRONT PAY
DISPUTE CONTINUES
, MEETING WITH MINISTER
Officials of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union met the Minister of labour (Mr. Webb) today to discuss the situation on the Wellington waterfront. - At present the main dispute concerns payment for a minimum of three hours for work done by the day shift after 6 p.m., and in an endeavour to clarify the position members .of the national disputes committee of the Watersiders 5 Union have been called to Wellington. \ There was a suggestion that work would not be resumed at 1 p.m. today by the day shift, "but no advice .was received by the men from the officials of the union, and work was commenced as usual, in accordance with i the new hours approved for the weekend by the Waterfront Control Com- ! mission. In any case, any work done this afternoon is not concerned with the dispute, as the union is claiming pay for work done between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., hours which are not worked on Saturday. . No work was done by the day shift after 5 p.m. yesterday,. the second day of stoppage of work after that time, until the night shift'started -at" 11 p.m.
