"COLOSSAL CRACK"
MONTGOMERY'S REMINDER Rec. 11 a.m. RUGBY, December 17. General Montgomery yesterday referred to heavy losses being suffered by the Germans in the Moro River battle, when he opened a new bridge which' carries the coast road over the Sangro. Addressing the sappers and pioneers who built the bridge, he reminded them that he had said the Eighth Army would hit- the Germans a "colossal crack." "Well, we did, and are still doing it. We areiburying large numbers of German dead." ■''- The bridge, over 1100 feet long,, weighs 300 tons, and carries the heaviest tanks. The men worked night and day for ten days to build it. ' ; A correspondent with, the Eighth Army, illustrating the supply difficul-ties-in the mountainous country, says that when a hill position was gained recently it took two and a half companies to supply food, water, and ammunition to the company which captured the hill.—B.O.W.
