POLES CELEBRATE

Today, May 3. is being celebrated by Poles as their National Day. Poland's stand against totalitarian aggression has been an inspiration to the rest of Europe, and, althoughsthe Nazis by overwhelming numbers over-ran v their country.- the Poles continue to fight on against the aggressor and have ' lively hopes of a speedy restoration of their country's independence. On their National .Day the Poles celebrate the framing of the constitution of their native country. The Poles in Wellington will meet this evening in St. Francis Hall.: The Consul-General for Poland, Count Wodzicki, will, preside, and speakers will include him, the Prime Minister, the Mayor of Wellington, and Mr. R. Borrin, chairman of the Association of Poles in New Zealand. Polish music 1 and Polish films will be included in the entertainment part of the pro-,, - gramme. ' . . \ A special Mass In connection with the day was celebrated in St. Mary of the Angels, Bpulcptt Street, this mprnirigT "The celebrant was Father J. W. Stewart, S.M., and a number of priests were present. The Consul-General for Poland attended; as well, as other Consular officers and many citizens. Archbishop Q'Shea spoke briefly on the significance of the day and on the need for prayers for the Allied cause in general and for Poland in particular.
