Fighting Forces Club.

The Fighting Forces Club, Jimmy James's Studio, Willis Street, will hold its first birthday party on Saturday. April 17. Special arrangements are being made to provide a suitable celebration. The Late Mrs. S. A. Howard. i Mrs. S. A. Howard passed away at Wellington last week at the age of 95 years. She was the widow of Mr. Samuel Howard, of the Railway Department Head Office. She and her husband arrived in New Zealand 70 years ago by the ship Cathcart, and after a short time in Christchurch settled permanently in Wellington! Mrs. Howard will be missed by a large circle of friends, her kindly and cheerful disposition endearing her to everyone. There are seven members of the family living—in Wellington and Hobart, Tasmania—l 9 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Te Ropu Club Meeting. Te Tatau o te Po, Lower Hutt, was the meeting place of the Te Ropu Club on Friday in connection with the soldiers' parcels. Mrs. O. M. Shakespeare presided in the absence of the president, Mrs. Hapi Love, who is in Rotorua. Mrs. T Waari (secretary) read club reports, and afterwards the guest-speaker, Mrs. Gibson Young, gave an interesting talk on "Nursery Rhymes." Mrs. F. Stedman sang a song composed by Margaret Sievi wx-ight, Wellington, entitled "English i Lanes." The composer, who was pre- | sent, was complimented and presented with flowers, as were the other guests of honour. The committee afterwards served tea in the tea-room. Mrs. Douglas Fraser played the National Anthem.
