AXIS SUPPLIES
SUNK BY SUBMARINES
BIG BRITISH SUCCESS
(Rec. 11.45 a.m.) RUGBY, March 31. A big submarine success off Tunisia is announced by an Admiralty communique, which states that four British submarines, operating against Axis supply lines to Tunisia, have sunk six more enemy ships and seriously damaged four others. One of the vessels seen to sink was a fairly large fully-laden vessel in a strongly escorted convoy, which was intercepted off the north of Sicily. Another ship sunk in the same area was a medium-sized vessel carrying cased petroleum. Of the others sunk two were of medium-size and two were smaD. Of the four damaged ships one is believed to have sunk later.
In addition to these successes, a number of smaller vessels were destroyed. Another submarine operating in the Mediterranean blew up a mediumsized supply ship unloading on the Calabrian coast. —8.0. W.
