AUCKLAND'S DRY SPELL ENDS
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Steady rain in Auckland for nine hours this morning broke the long dryspell and relieved the acute water position but much more is needed to overcome the effects of the drought. Government records showed that .49-inch fell up to 9 a.m., and the rain became heavier until shortly before midday, when there was a lull of less than an hour. The rain then resumed. Farmers, orchardists, and market gardeners declare that a soaking rain while the ground is still warm would bring great benefit.
The Wellington Co-operative Book Society will hold a discussion at 8 o'clock this evening in the New Zealand Educational Institute Club Rooms, "Evening Post" Building.
