FURTHER PROTEST
TREATMENT OF WOOL
GROWERS
(P.A.) PALMERSTON N., Mar. 19. A largely attended meeting of farmers at Feilding called to voice a protest against the decision of the Government in the matter of the method employed for payment to wool growers of the 15 per cent, increase in the wool price carried a motion drawing public attention to the following:—
"(a) That the Government in its decision perpetrated a grave injustice to the wool growers in compulsorily obliging them to subsidise the woollen manufacturing industry; (b) that the Government usurped the rights of individuals in compelling the wool growers to subscribe to the war loan by converting part of the cash payment into non-negotiable bonds."
The resolution added: "This meeting is apprehensive of this high-handed action, questions the Government's right to withhold portion of the trust moneys/and is of the opinion that legal proceedings should be taken to test the .validity o£ such action."
