INVESTIGATION OF NEW METHODS

It was announced today by the* Minister of Marketing (Mr. Barclay) that Mr. A. H. Honeyfleld, Auckland manager of the Internal Marketing Division, is now in America as a Government representative investigating the develop- ' met of the dehydration of vegetables, manufacture of sauerkraut, and concentration of fruit1 juices. In addition, Mr. Honeyfleld will inspect the latest methods adopted in America for the cool storage of foodstuffs, particularly by the quick-freeze method, and, if time permits, he will survey the Californian lemon industry and the possibility of increased utilisation of kauri gum. ', . . : '- :' : • "With the rapid expansion of New Zealand's food commitments in. the Pacific, area," stated Mr. Barclay, "it became essential to send a representative, overseas, to investigate all these matters, and If possible to arrange, with the assistance of the United States Joint Purchasing Board in New Zealand, the release of whatever equipment cah.be made available, so that New Zealand can maintain adequate supplies of foodstuffs for civilian requirements and at the same time.make increasing quantities available for the requirements of the Armed Forces, particularly in. the form most suitable for the Pacific area."
