REAL DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT
The ■ first annual conference of . tho Real; Democracy Movement was held at Lower Hutt on ' January" 22. The following officers were' elected:—North ■ Island Executive —Mr. C. F. Classen, Rawene; Major R. O. C. Marks, D.C.M.; Waiighnui; Mr, F. Allen, Auckland; Mr. F. D. Danks, Auckland; Mr.' R. G. /Young, Hamilton (secretary) ; South Island Executive —Mr. F. Whiley, Christchurch (president) ; Mr. A. E. Willyams, Christchurch (secretary) ; Mr.: W. B. Brockie, Christchurch; Mr. H. B. Parkin, : New Brighton; Mr. R. J. Henderson, Invercar-; gill. It was noted that nearly 50 per cent, of, the executive are returned soldiers. The Heal Democracy Movement aim? to make articulate the great body of public opinion in New Zea-. land which is convinced that oconomic security foj - aIU - combined with Individual liberty, .can be transformed from an Ideal to an actuality The conference protested against .the treat-, m'ent of men now returning to New Zealand, and affirmed thnta's a first instalment of post-; war reconstruction every man returning, should be assured an income at least equal to the; basic! wage until re-absorbed" Into civil employment. ■
