FLAGS OVER TOKIO
MR. FRASER'S HOPE
ROLLING BACK THE JAPS
"I look forward to the time, starting' this year, when the Japanese, under the pressure of the Allied nations, will be rolled back | just as Rommel has been rolled ! back in the Middle East, and 1 trust that the flags of all the Allied nations will wave over Tokio itself before many years are past," declared the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) at the A.I.F. luncheon in honour of Australia Day yesterday. "The tyrants must be taught that dictatorship and tyranny cannot succeed against the free people." Mr. Fraser paid a tribute to the record of the Australians in North Africa and the Middle East, and in Malaya. Nothing could be finer than the dignity of spirit that Australia showed when so many of her men were surrounded in the hopeless fight against overwhelming odds in Malaya, hi said. He also praised Australia's war effort, which, he said, sprang from practically nothing. One only had to get a glimpse of it, as he had done, fo know what it meant On his v sit last year to Australia he* was struck withY unity of the polit cal leader and the military leader of the Southwest Pacific. Each had expressed to him his utmost confidence ,m the 0t "ir*came away from Australia last July feeling that Australia was a great nation, united with the British .Commonwealth of Nations, and worthy of that union, and led with ability, efficiency, and determination— a nation that had set itself to help win the war, and afterwards to make Australia a better .place for the people of Australia than ever it was before, added Mr Fraser. "The destiny of Australia and New Zealand lies in their marching shoulder to shoulder not only towards a successful conclusion of the war, but towards building up the greatest and finest democracies the world has ever known."
