PONT DU FAHS BATTLE
LONDON, January 21. The battle v. near Pont dv Fahs, in northern Tunisia, is reported to be still in the balance. Allied artillery, tanks, and planes are making an all-out effort to confine the Germans to their original advance and turn the scales. LONDON, January 20. Allied air and artillery action over the Pont dv Fahs-Bou Tarada road, covering the French retreat, has limited the German movement to a single south-western drive, says the military spokesman in Algiers, commenting on the Axis penetration south-west of Pont dv Fahs. The Associated Press correspondent in Algiers says that the Axis forces are doing their utmost to perfect their defences in the present lines, and are arming every promising summit with guns, which have already several times forced the Allies to give up objectives. It is officially confirmed that the German tank expert, General yon Arnim, has succeeded General yon Nehring in command in Tunisia.
