Mr. E. H. Andrews, Mayor of Christchurch, left on Saturday for a short holiday in the south. In his absence his duties will be undertaken by Mr. M. E. Lyons, the Deputy Mayor.

Mr. J. Heeney, postmaster at Lyttelton for the past six years, has retired after forty years' service with the Post and Telegraph Department. Mr. Heeney joined the Department at Hastings, as a messenger. He was later stationed at Waihi, Otane, and Rakaia, being transferred from Rakaia to Lyttelton. His first appointment as a postmaster was at Otane. Mr. Heeney will shortly return to Hastings, where he was born.
