(Rec. 11.20 a-m.) RUGBY, Nov. 1. During. Friday, night our .troops made a : furtheradvance and tool? a number of- German prisoners., Counterattacks against our-riew positions were.beaten off* with,los§. to the enemy, "Our heavy and; medium, bombers, assisted:by, naval aircraft, were active on the same night, when they attacked targets in Crete and in- the battle area and.an enemyforward landing-ground. ''There were three-" outstanding?- afc operations, over the battle, area yesterday. It is suspected'that the panzer headquarters., was very successfully attacked . by, our,, fighters ,■ which- destroyed or. damaged vehicles, armoured' cars, tanks^ and tents. A camp.invthe Mersa Matruh, area was. attacked,- by longrange fighters. Large tents were, set on fire, and vehicles and, a wireless station were strafed.. A railway train, was also set on fire and the. engine destroyed. Casualties were also inflicted on the- troops in the. Mersa Matruh dock area. '. ■
"A third important . operation was carried, out by long-range fighters, which shot-up the':road between Solium and' Sidi Barranii Encampments ahd vehicles, some of which were carrying petrol, were destroyed. "Our light bombers were active over enemy landing grounds -and groups of vehicles." Fighter-bombers , continued the attack.
"There were four enemy bombing raids, on our land forces during-thi day, most of which were.successfully intercepted by our fighters. The eiriemy losses, were 13 aircraft destroyed and many others damaged; Five of our aircraft are •missing.'.'-^-8.0.W.
