CITY SERVICE CLUBS

All the service clubs report an extremely busy weekend. For the A.N.A. Club the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night entertainments were the culmination of a busy week. Among those who provided music for dancing were Sergeant Trevor Powell. Driver Walter Penman, Mesdames Allen and Dickson, and Messrs. L. Chalker and L. Cunninghame and the cafeteria helpers had the assistance on certain days of the Upper Hutt and Wellington branches of the W.D.F.U., a group from the Pioneer Club, and a group from the Victoria League. Catering for the huge crowds was greatly helped by the following gifts:—Case of provisions, Women's Home Guard (Patea), fortnightly gift of ham, T. H. Walker ahd Sons (Hawera), box of jam. Tinui W.D.F.U. carcasses of sheep. Te Apiti station (Havelock North) and Anonymous (Wellington), vegetables, Hutt Valley W.W.S.A.. and monetary donation, A.N.A. helpers (Marton). THE CINDERELLAS. The Cinderella Club was another popular rendezvous on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Mr. T. Duncan played for dancing on Sunday afternoon and Mrs. Allan's orchestra supplied popularmusic in the evening. The club wishes to thank the Petone Land Group for gifts of vegetables and would be grateful for the loan or gift of an electric fan for the summer months. HALLOWE'EN PARTY. More than 450 people attended the traditional Hallowe'en party and dance on Friday evening which began the usual successful weekend entertainment of the men of the forces at the Y.W.C.A. Blue Triangle Hall. Members of the Business Girls' Lyceum and the Old Collegians' Club sponsored the dance. On Saturday Johnson's orchestra played for large numbers of! men and girls of the Y.F.H. Club. Helpers in the cafeteria were from the Methodist choir and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Vegetables for the weekend tea menus were received by the regular kitchen committee from the Karori, Russell Terrace, and Lower Hutt W.W.S.A. land groups Supper was provided by the Wadestown Presbyterian Church, and on Sunday the Rev. R. Thornley was in charge of tlie short sing-song and service at 5 o'clock. The concert programme, "Let the People Sing," was put on by 20 members of the Young Pretenders' Drama Club. Over 60 girls and men in uniform attended the "mystery hike" on Sunday morning and enjoyed a gay picnic lunch at Wilton's Bush. AT THE VICTORY. The largest dance since the club's inception was held at the Victory Club on Saturday night. The M.C.s were Staff-Sergeant R. Sloane and Gunner J. Marshall and Messrs. Wade and Henderson were doorkeepers. Miss Kath McDonald entertained with a skipping dance and Ngaire Slack and Jack Marshall played the extras. The official hostesses were Mrs. C. W. Anderson and Misses N. Sparkes and May i Morton. j
