FALSE SALES TAX RETURNS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, September 25.

Fines totalling £300 were imposed by Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., today when Harold Charles Nason, cabinetmaker, Devonport, pleaded guilty to three charges of having made false sales tax; returns with intent to defraud the revenue. The charges were brought by the Collector of Customs.

The defendant had not benefited himself in any way by making the false returns and had sold his goods more cheaply to purchasers, said his counsel. His trouble was that he vyas no business man and a muddler with books.

A fine of £100 on each charge was imposed.
