AMERICAN NAVAL SECRETARY

(Rec 1.30 p.m.) . BALBOA (Canal Zone), Sept. 25,

Colonel Frank Knox, Secretary of the United States Navy, has arrived" at the naval base for an inspection of the Canal Zone's naval installations.

After his inspection trip along the Panama Canal, he said that the defence against air attack here was as per-, feet as anywhere in the world. He paid a tribute to the army-navy cooperation in the Canal Zone, and especially praised the co-operation of the Governments of Panama, Central, and "South America. Apparently everybody appreciated the gravity of the situation on this active war front, this potential danger spot which duplicates conditions in the South-western Pacific, he said.
