SILVER JUBILEE

ST. MARK'S CELEBRATIONS

A dinner for parents and past pupils marked the beginning of St. Mark's Church School silver jubilee celebrations 'this week. The guests included some who had been enrolled ■as pupils when the school first opened 25 years ago. They were welcomed by Canon N. F. E. Robertshawe, vicar of St. Mark's Church. A resume of school activities and events was read by Miss A. Holm, founder and princi-. pal. The Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, who was present, with Mrs. Holland, also spoke. Birthday cakes appropriately decorated with mottoes and jubilee motifs were presented by Mrs. Muir, Mr. G. W. Barltrop. Mesdames Mac Curdy, Westland, Robertshawe, Elliston, and Wright. The programme which followed the speeches and cake-cutting ceremonies was presented by both former and present pupils and included the singing of the school song composed by the late Mr. L. S. Watkins, Mr. Jamieson playing the accompaniment. Special guests were Mesdames A. Mack, G. W. Barltrop. W. J. Gaudin, W, A. Armour, and E. M. Lewis, Misses B. Holm and Lewis

The speakers at a recent meeting of the Women's Study Circle were Mesdames Mackenzie and Bosher. Mrs. Mackenzie spoke on "The Attitude of Women in War and Peace," pointing out that if women became sufficiently peace-minded it would be a definite advantage to the cause of good will and peace in the world. Mrs. Bosher's talk was on the subject of rubber and its uses.
