SUN CHARIOT WINS OAKS

Stakes, a, sweepstakes of £ 100 each, with £ 2000 added,. \,1% miles, run at Newmarket today, resulted in a win. for his Majesty's filly Sun Chariot, with Afterthought second, and Feberion third. Sun Chariot, who is by Hyperion from Clarence, scored by a length, with half a length between second and third, the time being 2min 33 l-ssec. Gordon Richards, who recently returned to race-riding after fracturing a leg in the old season, rode Sun Chariot.; It is the first time on which a Royal-owned filly has won the race. Sun Chariot has now won seven of the eight races she has contested, winning £6585 in stake-money. Men on the crowded stands waved their hats, cheering tremendously. There was another burst of cheering when the winner was led into the saddling enclosure. There was a big crowd at Newmarket, arid although there were a large number of cars many hundreds were forced to walk to the course owing to lack of transport.
