WOMEN RECRUITS
PROPOSALS SUBMITTED
Recommendations have been made by the War Council to the War Cabinet as to the means to be adopted to recruit women for the armed forces.' The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) said last night that a large number of women - was now required on the organisation of publicity and information services and the provision of labour for essential industries and undertakings. The War Council met this week. Mr. Fraser said the council was informed of the more recent developments in the strategic situation in, the Pacific; and of the measures, being taken, in the Dominion towards perfecting the country's defences. Reports submitted by the Defence and Military Affairs Committee and the Primary and Secondary Industries Committee were considered. Both these committees met on Wednesday. "The position in regard to the use of man-power in the armed forces was discussed." Mr. Fraser added, "and recommendations on this question have •been advanced. The council has also proposed that a number of industries and undertakings should be declared 'essential.'" <
