"LETHAL AS A TOOTHPICK"
"I think it's really an antique, but I don't think he is entitled to have it unless it is registered," said Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday concerning a cumbrous-look-ing long-barrelled revolver which was stated to be a relic of the Maori War. George Louis Charles Shaw was charged with being in possession of it without registering it, and was fined 10s. The weapon was confiscated, but it was stated that Shaw could apply for its return, if he registered it. Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan said it was an old and unserviceable weapon. "It's as lethal as a toothpick," said Mr. G. Joseph, who appeared :or Shaw. "It fires ball and gunpowder, and has been in the possession of Shaw's family for 70 years. I don't think it has been fired for the last forty or fifty years, if it was fired now it would probably do more damage .to the firer than, to anyone qn the receiving end."
