OIL PROSPECTS

NEW DRILLING PLANS

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. There were a number of localities in the Kumara district that looked very promising after a. geophysical survey, said the Minister of' Mines (Mr. Webb) this morning, commenting on preparations being made by the Superior Oil Company of New Zealand for drilling in that area. Referring to the arrival of the company's experts in the Dominion' the Minister said that the New Zealand Minister in Washington (Mr. Nash) had rendered great assistance in making arrangements with the American Government for priority in the shipment of the men and their jgear. The Superior Oil Company had had a team of'about.fdrty experts engaged in survey work with some of the most modern plant in the world, and after three years of prospecting at very great expense the records of the work were sent to America for further checking. As a result the company decided to send out three drilling rigs of the most modern type; in fact; "the drill that was about to operate on the West Coast was considered to be the largest ever exported. Drilling would be carried out with the other two rigs in the Manawatu district. .
