200 ITALIANS SURRENDER

The Axis forces were reported before the evacuation of Bir Hacheim to be showing signs of strain.
Two hundred Italian infantry approached the fortress under a white flag and gave themselves up to the French. They recently arrived from Italy and were completely demoralised by the heat and thirst. ,
A British column captured a large batch of Italian prisoners west of Gabr el Fachri, which is west of the gap.
