FIRE-WATCHING
MEN CALLED UP
Men who are called up for military duties are obliged to carry . on firewatching until actively attached to the armed forces, said the permanent city fire-watch organiser, Mr. V. E. Hamp-son-Tindale, today.
"Individuals who have been called u,p for military service or who have been posted from the E.P.S. to the Home Guard," he said, "are not released from fire-watching duties till such time as they are definitely detailed, or receive instructions to attend a parade on a specified date. Till they receive such notices they continue to be members of the E.P.S. These notices constitute their active attachment to the armed forces. I make this statement after consultation with the National Service Department.
"Regulation 1942/94, Section 4, states that a person in the E.P.S. shall be a member of that service during the present war and for six months thereafter, unless he is duly discharged or duly transferred to another E.P.S. or another branch of the Emergency Reserve Corps."
