TOMORROW'S PARADE

RATE SPEEDED UP

TRAFFIC IN OUTER AREAS

Far surpassing anything of the kind yet attempted, tomorrow's 20----mile-long parade of men and war machines in honour Of United Nations Day promises to be a memorable event in Wellington's history. Outstanding feature will be the parade of a full brigade group, with 800 vehicles and a squadron of 18 tanks, many of which have been built in New Zealand workshops.

In view of the magnitude of the parade a special appeal is made to the public to observe their part of the traffic obligations, and keep to the footpaths, which will be roped off.

In order to shorten proceedings, the rate at which mechanised units will travel has been speeded up, and this is expected to reduce the parade time by about half an hour. Consequently it will conclude about 12.30 p.m.

As announced before, the head of the parade will move off at 10.27 a.m. from Thorndon Quay, and along Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Manners Street, to Taranaki Street.

The second group, which will comprise the" brigade, will also move off from Thorndon Quay, and along Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Manner* Street, Courtenay Place, Cambridge Terrace, Wakefield Street, Jervois Quay, Waterloo Quay, arid Aotea Quay.

The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall, will arrive at the saluting base outside the Parliament Buildings grounds at 10.25 a.m., tv*o minutes before the parade moves off.

Civilian. traffic is requested to keep off the Hay wards Road and also the road between Pahautanui and Pare* mata between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., and off the Ngahauranga, Johnsonville, and Paremata roads from noon until 4 p.m. Tfte Hutt Road will be closed for ordinary traffic, and therefore cars will not have access to Wellington even if they use the Haywards-Pahautanul-Paremata route in the early part of the day.

The grounds of Government Buildings will be closed for the parking of private cars.
