OBITUARY

MR. R. E. HERRON

The death occurred at his residence, 99 Austin Street,, today of Mr. R. E. Herron, after a short illness. Mr. Herron, who recently retired from the general managership of the municipal milk department, was aged 66. -

He was born in Lawrence, Otago, in 1875, was educated at the. Greymouth High School, and entered the employment of E. W. Mills and Co., Wellington, in 1899. From that firm he went to Mason, Struthers, Christchurch, in 1897, but returned to E. f W. Mills and Co. as head buyer the following year. He became a member of the firm of Herron, Raine, and Hodder, general importers, in 1904. In 1907 he became hardware manager for C. and A. Odlin, Timber and Hardware Co., Ltd., and seven years later was appointed stores manager to the Public Works Department, and while holding that position the Government appointed him to act on several boards on

which he sat with heads of Government Departments. From 1907 to 1914 he was a director of C. and A. Odlin, Ltd. He was appointed from 19 applicants to be general manager of the municipal milk department of the City Corporation in 1922, and held that position till his retirement on March 3.1 of this year. He was an ex-presi-dent of the Victoria Bowling Club and the Wellington Royal Choral Society, and an ex-Rotarian.

Mr. Herron married for the second time early this year, Miss Martha Campbell, of Wellington. Besides his wife he is survived, by three daughters of the former marriage, Mesdames E. H. Cairns, A. K. Doyle, and K. E. Balchin. Mr. E. A. Herron, a director of C. and A. Odlin, Ltd., is a brother, and Mrs. Geo. Passey (Pohangina) is a sister.

The funeral will leave the Taranaki Street Methodist Church tomorrow at 10 a.m.
