COUPON A MONTH

TRADE SUGGESTION FOR CARS

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, This Day. After a discussion the Otago branch of the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association issued a statement expressing the opinion that one coupon monthly should be issued to all private motorists to enable them to keep their cars in running order. The actual amount required would be 600,000 gallons of petrol, which would be only a fraction of the cost involved in any scheme for the institution of a battery service, while simultaneously the mechanical parts of cars would be kept in running order.

Strong support was also given to a suggestion that the gallonage of commercial users should be diverted from commercial pumps to the resellers. Disappointment was expressed at the absence of any Government statement as to future policy.
