CAMOUFLAGE NETS
FIVE HELPFUL HINTS
Camouflage nets are now being made in large quantities by Wellington women and girls. All materials may be obtained through the Women's War Service Auxiliary. The Girl Guides, who have been making nets for over six months, are the official instructors, and application should be made to them for information. Nets must be uniform and made to instructions which are issued. ,
For the benefit of those working, a few helpful hints are added by a Girl Guide Commissioner:—
1. There are three kinds of knots employed; the clove-hitch for casting on. the sheet-bend for working, and the reef knot for joining twine.
2. Instructions regarding sizes of nets will be issued on application to the Girl Guides.
'3 Make sure of holding your net at the same tension while working. It is essential to avoid slip knots. Evenness and firmness are required.
4. In making your sheet-bend knot it is easier to pull behind the-template than in front. This makes a tighter knot and is less heavy on the hands. A glove on the right hand is recommended.
5. On joining twine with a reef knot leave long ends of 9 inches or so. as these prove useful later.
For information for making nets telephone Mrs. W. G. Turnbull, 43-283.
