WOOL APPRAISAL

PRICES SATISFACTORY

(P.A.) WANGANUI, January 23. '•When quality and style are taken into account, prices were satisfactory, and equivalent to recent realisations," stated an official report issued by the Wanganui Woolbrokers' Association on the third appraisal of the current season. The appraisal began at the weekend, and was concluded today. The number of bales offered was 25,166.. The continued spell of broken weather had retarded shearing, and this had an appreciable effect on the quality of wool available, the report added. The clips offered comprised wools from the Wanganui, Rangitikei, Taranaki, and Waimarino districts. Though well-grown, the wool was not in as good condition as usual, owing to discoloration, the result of the abnormal season. The bulk of the bellies and pieces were stained, and this condition was reflected in the prices as compared with l»st year. A fair quantity of lambs' wool was offered, and, generally speaking, was in fairly good condition. Prices were satisfactory. As in the earlier appraisals, a marked preference was shown to well skirted and classed clips. Growers were well repaid for their efforts in this respect.
