BLANKET ORDERS

SAFEGUARD PROVIDED

RECTIFYING OF ANOMALIES

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 28.

Provision for conferences to be held with a view to rectifying anomalies or injustices arising from holiday and overtime suspension orders was announced by the Minister of Labour (Mr. Webb). The Minister, who is visiting Auckland, made a statement after a meeting of the Industrial Emergency Council in Wellington, at which the position of the industries covered by the recent suspension order was discussed.

When the recent orders were made it was recognised by the Industrial Emergency Council that there would be anomalies and possibly injustices arising from blanket orders of that kind, Mr. Webb said The council made provision for the exemption of certain industries from the scope of the orders, but, realising that in all probability there would be further industries and occupations, that would have a case for exemption, it was further provided that their position would be considered if and when required.

"I now wish to state that where there is an anomaly or where hardship has been inflicted on any workers, representatives of the workers and representatives of their employers will be "called together as early as possible, to confer in the presence of representatives of the Industrial Emergency Council for. the purpose of rectifying any such anomalies or injustices," Mr. Webb added. "In the event of the representatives failing to reach an agreement the council will recommend the Minister to take appropriate action."
