TRAVEL ALLOWANCES
A standard form for the computation of travelling allowances of members of any boards, councils, or committees of boards which may be established by future regulations is provided by the Travelling Allowance Regulations, 1941, which were gazetted last week. The regulations do not apply to members of any such bodies already in existence, but may be incorporated in any future regulations establishing such boards, councils, or committees for functions either of local or national government.
The regulations are framed to meet cases where board members' duties involve their absence from homes for 24 hours or more, or involve their leaving home one day and returning on the next. They are very comprehensive, providing for the payment of expenses for travel by motor" vehicles, trains or steamers and by private conveyances where no. regular transport system is available. There is even a schedule of expenses for the stabling .of horses in cases where this form of locomotion is necessary.
