READING WINS STAKES

Showing a return to form, Reading won the I Canterbury Stakes, at the Canterbury Park j Meeting, defeating High Caste by half a length. High Caste made a prodigious run from well back in the field, but Reading, hard ridden, just stalled off the challenge; Beau Vlte. having his first race of the season, never showed up. y-x .. ■■>> The New Zealandera Serenata and Omapo were . unplaced in the Campsie Handicap. Another New Zealander, Duvach, who was to have had his first outing in the Flying Handicap, met with an injury: to his head en route to the course and had to be withdrawn.
