TECHNICAL SCHOOL
ELECTION OF BOARD
PAST APPOINTMENTS
; A reply to a letter from the Wellington Education Board enclosing a stated ment by Colonel T. W. McDonald regarding the legality of past elections of members' to the Board of Managers of the Wellington Technical School was received by the Education Board yesterday from the Director of Education (Drv'C. E. Beeby).
Dr. Beeby stated that he had been directed by the Minister, of Education to say that he was of the opinion that the appointment of members had not'been rendered illegal by the fact that certain minor duties had been •carried out in the past by the returning officer instead of by the controlling authority, and he confirmed all past appointments. For the future, however, it might perhaps be as well for the Education Board to carry out the duties specified in the regulations as far as fixing the dates of elections, notifying electing or appointing bodies and informing the Minister of the results were concerned. Dr. Beeby added he was . quite sure that the board of managers of the Technical School would be quite willing to consult with the Education Board and make the necessary arrangements.
An effort by Colonel T. W. McDonald to have the letter referred back to the Director of Education for his personal confirmation of past appointments was defeated.
