GRADED PHYSICAL TRAINING
There is evidence in various districts lhat the physical training scheme which is being organised and supervised by officers of the Department of Internal Affairs for Home Guard units is not yet sufficiently.understood by numbers of middle-aged men.
In a statement today, the Minister. Mr, Parry, said that for physical and recreational purposes each Home Guard unit was divided into three groups. No. 1 comprised young fit men and men fairly fit who could take vigorous training carefully administered at the beginning. In No. 2 group were men less physically fit and middle-aged men who had easier exercising before they could be drafted into No. 1. The third group took in older men for whom the exercises were comparatively mild. Full instructions on this subject were issued to unit commanders and the information given to Home Guard instructors, who were trained by officers of the Department, enabled them to arrange suitable programmes of exercise and recreation for each group. Every possible precaution was taken to avoid risky strain.
