FUNERAL TODAY

LORD LOTHIAN

MILITARY HONOURS

WASHINGTON; December 13,

The State Department announced that the body of the British Ambassador to the United States, Lord Lothian, who died on Thursday, will be cremated and the ashes interred temporarily in the Arlington National Cemetery, the resting place of America's military heroes, on December 16. Cremation will take place after a memorial service in the Cathedral of Peter and Paul on December 15. Interment will be with full military honours. The ashes will be deposited in a vault under the mast of the memorial battleship Maine till the family and the British Government decide the final resting place.

A British source revealed that President Roosevelt is likely to attend Lord Lothian's funeral, since he is cutting short his cruise, landing at Charleston, South Carolina, today, and reaching Washington by train on December 15.

It is authoritatively stated that Lord Halifax's name is prominent in discussions about Lord Lothian's successor. It is known that Lord Halifax would be welcomed in high United States quarters.
