WARMER CONDITIONS
Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate southerly winds becoming variable. Weather fine with rising tempera^ tures. The general forecast for the Domin r ion for the 24 hours from noon today is for fresh south-easterly winds at first in the Cook Strait-Taranaki region, otherwise light to moderate and variable, with southerly directions predominating. Weather fair to fine over the South Island. Scattered rain over the North Island, but conditions improving from the south. Moderate to mild temperatures. A weak disturbance advanced during last night to beyond New Plymouth and Napier, but pressure remains high over the whole New Zealand and Tasman Sea area. South-west and southerly winds prevailed over the.South Island yesterday, and this morning over the North Island also. Scattered rain has fallen in most districts, but more particularly in eastern districts between Dunedin and East Cape, the heavier falls being about Cook Strait. Conditions have improved this! morning over the South Island, where! winds are now light and variable. Ex T i cept in the far north temperatures have become cooler. Skies were overcast yesterday in | Auckland and Christchurch,- and i-ain j fell in both centres during the afternoon and evening. South-westerlies prevailed in the evening in Auckland and Christchurch, and all day in Dunedin, where the weather was fair, air though cloudy. , ' In Wellington the weather was fine and sunny in the morning, but the sky clouded over later in the afternoon and some heavy localised showers fell in the city during the evening. For the day 10.1 hours of bright sunshine were recorded, and the maximum and minimum temperatures were 70.6 and 51.0 degrees respectively-. Ninety-four points of rain were recorded at Kelburn, the rain commencing shortly after 8 p.m., and 60 points had fallen by 9 p.m., the rain ceasing about midnight. . i
