RELIGIOUS SERVICES. . pHRISTADELPHIAN LECTURE ON BIBLE TRUTH (God Willing) 1.0.0.F HALL, ALLEN STREET (Opp. Paramount Theatre, Courtenay Place), SUNDAY, at 7 p.m. Subject: "TO OBEY IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE" "HATH THE LORD AS GREAT DELIGHT IN BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES AS IN OBEYING THE VOICE OF THE LORD? BEHOLD TO OBEY IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE, AND TO HEARKEN THAN THE FAT OF RAMS." (Samuel to Saul—l Sam. 15:22.) The object of this lecture is to demonstrate that the Bible reveals that Divine favour depends entirely upon implicit obedience of Divine law whatever that law may be. Consider the following:— (1) ADAM disobeyed God—the result expulsion from Eden and sin, suffering, and death for himself and all his posterity. (Gen. 2:17, Gen. 3:17-24, Gen. 5:5. Roms. 5:12, Roms. 5:17-19, 1 Cor. 15:22.) (2) SAUL disobeyed God—the result God rejected Saul and he lost his kingdom. (1 Sam. 15:1-29, 1 Chron. 10: 13). (3) THE JEWS disobeyed God—the result their expulsion from Palestine and removal "into all the Kingdoms of the earth" to become "an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among ail nations." (Exod. 19:5, Deut. 11:26-28, Isa. 42:24, Jer. 7:28, Jer. 11:7-8, Jer. 32:23, Deut. 28:15, Deut. 28:25, 37,64) (4) JESUS CHRIST obeyed God-the re suit He was saved from death by resurrection and now enjoys eternal life. (Hebs. 5:8, Hebs. 4:15, Roms. 5:19. Phil. 2:8, John 8:29, Acts 2:23-27, Roms. 6:9, Rev. 1:18.) (5) THE same principle still operates for Jesus said "Ye are My friends IF YE DO whatsoever I command you" (John lo:14).< "If ye love Me KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS" (John 14: 15). "Why call ye Me Lord, Lord, and DO NOT the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46-49). (6) THE obedience now required to obtain Divinte favour and salvation is: (a) Belief of the Gospel of Christ. (Mark 16:15-16. Roms. .1:16, 1 Cor. 15:1-2, Acts 8:12.) (b) Baptism in water after belief. (Mark 16:15-16. Acts 8:37-39, Acts 8:12, Acts 18:8, Gals. 3:27-29.) (c) Newness of life after baptism by following Christ's teaching. (Roms. 6:3-6, John 10:27-28, John 14:21-24, Matt, chapters 5, 6, and 7.) "THOUGH HE. (JESUS) WERE A SON, YET LEARNED HE OBEDIENCE BY THE THINGS WHICH HE SUFFERED. AND BEING MADE PERFECT HE BECAME THE AUTHOR OF ETERNAL SALVATION UNTO ALL THEM THAT OBEY HIM." (Hebs. 5: 8-9).
